Setup into the open

Friday closed Bleeding: the S&P proxy fell about 1.8%, the Nasdaq proxy about 3.5% and the chip ETF about 6.9% after Intel's collapse. As of about 6:15 AM ET, the S&P proxy is +0.56%, the Nasdaq proxy +0.87%, small caps +0.80% and the Dow proxy +0.60%. The chip ETF is +1.62%. The vol proxy is −2.97%, long Treasuries −0.33%, gold +0.48% and the dollar flat. Bitcoin is near $77,800, about −0.7% since midnight.

What to watch

Nothing major reported Friday after the close. This morning Marriott ($2.86 est, implied about 3.9%), Estee Lauder ($0.52, about 8.3%), Idexx ($3.71, about 8.6%) and Tower Semiconductor report. Estee Lauder is about flat premarket after its numbers.

ISM manufacturing (prior 54.5, forecast 54.5) and construction spending (forecast 0.4%) land at 10:00 AM ET. After the close Apple ($1.98 est, implied about 3.7%), Palantir ($0.41, about 11.3%), ON Semiconductor ($0.88, about 9.5%) and Vertex report. Tuesday is election day.

What X is saying

Accounts report Brent fell as much as 4% on hopes for a US-Iran resolution, and posts say efforts are growing to bring the parties back to talks. Iran's state media said two tankers hit mines in the Strait of Hormuz on Sunday. Posts say Estee Lauder beat estimates and raised its outlook, and that OpenAI's new funding fell short of a $30 billion target. These are unconfirmed.

Insight

Friday was a chip story; this morning is an oil story. Cheaper crude lowers the inflation worry, which helps explain why stocks and gold are up together while long Treasuries slip. The chip bounce is small next to Friday's drop, so it reads as relief, not repair. Apple and Palantir tonight are the first big tests of whether Friday's selling spreads.

Desk stance

Publish mood is Bleeding, Friday's closing read. With the S&P proxy up about 0.6% and the vol proxy lower, the 9:45 refresh leans toward Choppy if the gains hold. A chip ETF back below Friday's close or crude reversing higher on the talks would point to Rattled or worse.
