Key numbers
Wednesday, October 28 is Fed day, with the decision at 2:00 PM ET, but the overnight story is oil again. Posts say the US told several Gulf Arab countries to be ready for a short, intense military campaign after the midterm elections, citing a newspaper report. No government has confirmed it.
Setup into the open
Tuesday closed Choppy. The chip ETF rose about 3.0% while Boeing’s 10.7% drop held the Dow proxy flat. As of about 6:15 AM ET, crude is +1.53% and the Nasdaq proxy +0.38%, while the S&P proxy is +0.08%. Small caps and the Dow proxy are both −0.25%, long Treasuries −0.16% and gold −0.33%. What to watch
Last night’s beats mostly sold off. NXP ($4.14 est) is −7.2% against an implied move of about 10.6%, after posts say adjusted EPS was $4.20. F5 is −5.3%, Teradyne −3.9%, Seagate −3.0% and Visa −1.6%, all after beating EPS estimates. Posts say Seagate also guided revenue above estimates.
This morning Vertiv ($1.82 est, implied about 8.6%) is +14.9% after posts say organic orders grew more than 100%. GE Vernova ($4.03, about 5.3%) is +2.2% on a $9 billion deal and Amphenol ($0.73, about 9.2%) +2.3%. After the close: Microsoft ($4.71, about 4.3%), Alphabet ($2.94, about 5.1%), KLA and ServiceNow.
What X is saying
Accounts report crude futures rose more than $2 overnight on reignited supply risks, and a senior Iranian official told a wire that Qatar had not offered a new plan to end hostilities. Posts say industry data showed a surprise 2 million barrel drop in crude stocks. These are unconfirmed.
Insight
Two of the market’s live stories are pulling at once. Oil is rebuilding its war premium on a report, not an event, and stocks are mostly shrugging it off because AI hardware keeps beating. The sell-offs in last night’s beats show the bar is high, which makes Microsoft and Alphabet tonight a bigger test than the Fed.
Desk stance
Publish mood is Choppy, matching Tuesday’s close. A flat open that waits on the 2:00 PM decision would move the 9:45 refresh to Waiting. Crude extending past a 3% gain would push it toward Spooked.
